I just came back from Hawaii a couple of months ago. I been to Maui and Oahu 4 times . There both great Places to visit . One thing I’ll tell you is, not to island hop ! Each Island has their own little paradise . The main thing is to relax and enjoy. Go ! Do not plan anything but where you want to go to and what hotel you like to go to. Rent a car , get a map and explore ! Don’t be in a rush to get anyplace . This is what make Hawaii paradise ! Honolulu ,Yes,Is a busy place. Only if you let it be. there so many places to visit there . Don’t be afraid to ask people there where are some great places . There very friendly about helping you . BEACHES ! there are so many beaches there , that you’ll spend more time trying to figure which quiet beach you want to go to. In Hawaii , know one can own beaches , not even the Hotels ! Even it the well todo areas ,they have public accesses to the beach . Honolulu is a great place to end up at ,when night falls. There you get to unwind and just feel the ocean breeze. I’ll tell you another thing ,Maui is just as great. there also are many beaches and nice places to eat and dance . I prefer Oahu first. Then on the next visit go to another island . One good thing about Hawaii is that ,there islands ! You always come back to where you started . I know that for a fact!

Why not choose Maui? It’s got the best of both worlds. Look into staying somewhere at Kanapali.

I would recommend Kauai if you aren’t afraid of being bore at nights. Kauai’s night life is more limited. We stayed in Kauai a few times and found nothing much to do in the nights.

On Oahu, it is more of a tourist areas, therefore, there are plenty to be entertained, both day & nights. Beside, the luxury hotel in Kahala (on east of Waikiki), there are also varies hotels/motels/b&b in North Shore (eg Turtle Bay) and west side of the island (eg Ihilani).

The beach area in Turtle Bay Hotel is more quiet. Most visitors there are from the hotel itself. Ihilani has a great beach area too. It is more crowded in the weekends as it is also another local delight beach. It also has a very nice lagoon for some clamer enjoyment.

If you prefer, you can actually stay at Ala Moana hotel, Prince Hotel, just outshirt of Waikiki. In this way, you are not in the center to get all busy tourists around but yet, you are close enough should you want to visit this famous spot. Next to these 2 hotels is the Ala Moana Beach Park. A very nice spot for everyone to enjoy.

Shopping malls, restaurants, theaters, game & fun places, etc are easy to access on Oahu.

There are a lots of secret, quiet beach on Oahu too. However, I do recommend you to visit beach with people (not so much of Waikiki beach). This is for your own safety. Should you get into trouble on water/land, there are people around to help. This should apply to Kauai too. Being alone in a honeymoon sounds really romatic for both of you, but safety should always be a top prioty.

Otherwise, enjoy Hawaii.

Kauai…it’s much more romantic. Oahu is way touristy and overpopulated.

I think the island for you is Maui. Stay in Kanapali Beach and go to Lahiana for your entertainment. With that said if you still have a choice between Kauai and Oahu. I lived in Oahu and love the island. You got some quiet beaches on the N shore or East Shore but you gon need a car to get to those places. Of course you know Waikiki goes off everynight Dukes, Tsunamis, pubcrawlhawaii.com, Zanzabar, Fashion 45, Scruples etc.

Kauai is good to for some relaxing. Its a very pretty island and very quiet. They got a few bars on Kauai. You got Robs Good Time Grill and you also got Tradewinds. I mean they’re aight. But if you wanna kick it Oahu. If you wanna kick it somewhat Maui. If you wanna kick it a lil Kauai.

I would go with Kauai if you want a place that is really quiet if not Oahu where there are alot of night life in Waikki

You are probably better off on Kauai. There are not many hotels on Oahu outside of Waikiki. And of those, only one, in Kahala, is close enough that you could easily get to Waikiki to enjoy the night life.

I’m gonna say Kauai. It’s very rare that you’ll find a quiet beach on Oahu no matter how far away you are from Waikiki. Kauai is much quieter, and you’ll have a number of beaches all to yourself. The nightlife may not be as good as Oahu’s, but I’m sure you’re not gonna be that bored. I’m a bartender and I talk to a lot of tourists. You need to take into consideration that you’ll have the time difference, so if you’re used to staying up till 2 your time, remember that’s 11 p.m. our time, at least, if you’re from the west coast. Also, I know it sounds relaxing and you may laugh, but going to the beach is actually a lot of work, and you’ll wear yourselves out well. More than likely, you’ll want to see a few of the ‘off the map’ beaches which require at least a mild hike, then I’m sure you’ll want to swim and Hawaii has currents most people in the mainland aren’t used to, so trust me when I say you might not have the strength to go out at night.

If you do, there are a few local bars where they have a dj playing, you can sing karaoke, or even catch a live local band. If you can, look up Tradewind, Trees, Rob’s Good Times Grill, The Point at the Sheraton Poipu, Tahiti Nui, and Lizard Lounge.

I just got home last week from vacation. We went to 4 islands. Oahu was our least favorite. Way too much trafflic. Remember that 80% of the population lives on Oahu and their “freeway” is one big traffic jam. Kauai was my favorite. Calm, and quiet.
